12Volt: Games Studio are the team to design and produce escape rooms, puzzles, props and team building experiences. From the ground up, we understand your needs and create a game that hits all of your requirements; from purely entertaining, to highly educational and informative.

But no matter what your goal, the result will always be the same: Fun!

We start looking at what you want to achieve; working closely with you to understand precisely what you need. Using this information, we apply our experience and knowledge to designing a game (or games!) which communicate everything you want; this could be as simple as “I want people to have fun being pirates!” to “I need to educate our teams about our new business strategy and direction”.  Whatever your desired outcomes, we can custom fit an experience to work with it, and with you.

Once you have signed off on the proposal, we set about designing and building the proposed game; from one off custom props, to adapted bought-in assets; our extensive experience in electronics, theming and fabrication lets us produce anything we can imagine, for you.

After these have been built and tested in house, you will be invited to come and play the game yourself! bring your team, bring some friends…this allows you to be the first to try game and find the enjoyment of it before anyone else; it also serves as a good time to make any final changes you might find necessary before we package them all up and deliver them to you on site for your install.

We are as full service as it gets; from design and build, to consultation and help with the build of your own rooms and puzzles, we are with you every step of the way.

But why the name? Simply put, our work runs on a 12 Volt architecture; it’s the fundamental building block of what we can do; it’s safer to use than standard 240v, it’s efficient and flexible to deploy, so not only is it how we do what we do, but its a solid representation of our attitude and style.

Also it sounds so much more exciting than 12mm MDF.

PHILOSOPHY

12Volt: Games Studio is born out of three separate but connected concepts;

  1. Educate and entertain. A quote, often Attributed to Marshall McLuhan, sums this up perfectly: “Anyone who says there is a difference between education and entertainment knows nothing about either”. Our game designs flow from this, from a simple logic puzzle, to grander conceptual team building, the ability to educate creates entertainment, vice versa, and one cannot exist without the other.
  2. Form Follows Function. Also true of the wider idea of game design, when it comes to the creation of physical props and assets, what it needs to do comes first and defines the appearance of the prop second; these are interactive puzzles, if you can’t interact with them purposefully, they have fundamentally failed.
  3. The joy of discovery. Puzzle games and interactives depend on any number of techniques to encourage and illicit enjoyment; from clever audio and lights, to cunning physical contraptions, it’s all good and it all works, however the singular idea it all boils down to is simply the moment of illumination, the pin point where things become clear and make sense. This moment is the joy of discovery, and it’s that epiphany that drives the core of our game play design principle.
